A Splitwise alternative built for one shared flat

What changed on Splitwise free: free users can add up to 4 expenses a day (Splitwise help center, checked november 2026).

What IPaid does instead: unlimited bills for one flat, free with no card, and your flatmates don't need the app to see their share.

Is the 4-a-day limit actually a problem for roommates?

Honestly, for monthly rent and utilities it rarely is: that's a handful of bills a month. It bites in the busy weeks: a new flat, move-in week, or a big shop where everyone covered a different receipt. Splitwise's own limit article suggests waiting for the reset or asking a friend to add expenses for you. For those weeks, see the free move-in cost calculator and grocery split calculator.

When Splitwise is still the better pick

Switching in 10 minutes

  1. Export your Splitwise group as a CSV from the Splitwise web app, so you keep your full history.
  2. Start your flat in IPaid (free, Google or email, no card).
  3. Re-enter only the open balances, not the whole history. One bill per open amount is enough.
  4. Copy the short note IPaid writes and paste it into your flat group chat. Flatmates don't need to install anything.

Questions

Is IPaid really free?

Yes. One active flat is free with unlimited bills and shares, and signup needs no card. Pro (multiple flats) is planned for when billing goes live.

Do my roommates need to sign up?

No. Your flatmates don't pay or need the app to see their share. You copy a short message and paste it into WhatsApp, a group chat or email.

Can I import from Splitwise?

Not yet. Export your Splitwise CSV to keep your history, then add only the open balances to IPaid. It usually takes about 10 minutes for a flat.

What is the Splitwise free daily limit?

Splitwise's help center says free users can add up to 4 expenses each day, and Splitwise Pro removes the limit. Checked November 2026.

Does IPaid handle rent split by room size?

Use the free rent split calculator to agree each person's rent by room size, then log rent in IPaid with those shares.
